FIRST YEAR LAW BOOKS I PERSONALLY USED AND RECOMMEND BY MS NOTA BENE
For my Constitutional Law 1 and 2 class, I used "Constitutional Law and Political law" by Isagani Cruz. I highly recommend them as they provides a comprehensive and easy-to-understand approach to the said subjects. However, it's always best to check with your professor for their recommended reading material. Another great option is "The Philippine Constitution" by Hector de Leon.
For my Criminal Law 1 and 2 class, I used "Criminal Law Book 1 and 2" by Reyes. They offer a thorough and detailed examination of criminal law, and I found them to be a valuable resource. Again, it's always best to consult with your professor for the required reading material.
My Criminal Procedure 1 class was a second-year subject, nevertheless I would recommend "Criminal Procedure" by Attorney Riano and "Criminal Procedure" by Attorney Gubat. I found "Criminal Procedure" by Attorney Riano to be particularly helpful as it presents the material in a way that makes it easier to understand. On the other hand, "Criminal Procedure" by Attorney Gubat follows the order of the rules of court, which is helpful for understanding the meaning and purpose of the rules.
Unfortunately, I did not have a Philosophy of Law subject, so I can't recommend any specific book. But I've seen "Philosophia" by Attorney Bernardo as a good resource material.
For my Statutory Construction class, I used "Statutory Construction" by Attorney Agpalo, but it doesn't have a latest edition. I recommend checking out "Statutory Construction" by Attorney Aquino and Attorney Suarez as they have the updated editions.
For Judicial and Legal Ethics, I found that the best resource is the "Rules of Court" codal. It's important to be familiar with the codal, as it contains the ethical guidelines for legal professionals.
For my obligations and contracts class, I found "Obligations and Contracts" by Attorney Paras to be a valuable resource. However, some of my classmates preferred "Obligations and Contracts" by Attorney De leon. It's important to consult with your professor for their recommended book to ensure that you don't waste money on unnecessary materials.
For Civil Procedure, I found "Civil Procedure" by Attorney Riano to be a valuable resource. However, other options to consider include "Civil Procedure" by Attorney Gubat or "Civil Procedure" by Dean Ferdinand Tan. What's most important is having a copy of the "Rules of Court" codal, as it is an essential reference for any law student.
For Legal Research, I used "Legal Research" by Attorney Rodriguez. However, I am not sure if it has the latest version, so it's worth checking out "Legal Research" by Attorney Santos-Ong as well.
In addition, you can also consider online legal research tools such as Law Phil dot net and supreme court website, they provide access to a wide range of legal materials including case law, statutes, and regulations. They can also help you to keep up-to-date with the latest legal developments, which can be especially helpful for students of law.
Please note that these are just my personal recommendations based on my own experience. It's always best to consult with your professors and check the latest edition of the books.
